Mop Art

Here's some more pictures from set-up weekend - this shows how AWESOME my husband is!

Seriously.

He was the BEST help!!

I'm still sifting through a million pictures, trying to set up my artist Facebook page and add to my art website. PLUS I'm trying to graduate. And move to England. Argh.

My Artist's Reception and Artist's Talk went positively SMASHING! I was awarded summa cum laude departmental honors by my committee right then and there. WHEEEE!

I've sold about half of the work in my show - that's about FORTY pieces!! The thousands of dollars in my pocket are burning a serious hole right now... But a chunk of it will have to go to the "shipping the animals to England" fund. Boo. But I can't live without my squeezie animals, so OH WELL!

A large amount of the artwork I've sold so far has been purchase by faculty and administration at UNM... That totally blows me away. I've been told over and over again that this has been the best show in John Sommers gallery in a long, long time... I'm just overwhelmed! Everyone has been so wonderful. I have gone into the gallery a couple of times just to watch people's reactions to my art - they are so entertained, and they smile and spend such a long time looking at each and every creature.

The professor who runs the new Arts Management program came to my reception (I had never met her before) and she talked with me for about an hour about how fantastic my work is, and that she will be calling the Alibi and local paper about me. SERIOUSLY. She gave me a list of contacts and recommendations and I am just stoked :)

The cherry on the sundae is that Dr. Libby Lumpkin bought one of my pieces!! OH MY LORD I was totally hoping that she would want one, but HELLO she owns an art collection that I could only hope to be worthy of! I offered all three members of my committee their choice of one of the $100 pieces, and Libby selected this one:

He is one of my favorites and was a $150 piece - I told Libby that she could just pay $50 for it, but she ended up insisting on paying $100 and handed me a $100 bill before she left. Le sigh. I just adore her.

I don't have time to put a lot more pics up right now, but here is one more popular little guy:

He was bought by my friend Katie, but I've been comissioned to PLEASE make another by my friend Lynn (who also bought 2 other pieces).

It's been a whirlwind, to say the least.

I'll post some pictures of MY FABULOUS SISTER'S VISIT soon, too!!
I already miss her.
